Most recent updates

Well, Mike got off this morning to Chief's Academy in California. He will be gone for about 6 weeks or so. I think we figured that we would see each other again in 35 days. That doesn't seem very long, but I am way out of practice. We all had a hard time separating. Everyone was crying. Seems so funny that when we lived in Alaska it was a normal part of our routine. I'm sure it will be again some day. He called me not too long ago and said that he got in, so I guess the hard part's over. I know he's safe and that all that matters.

Lane ended up with pneumonia this week. Both kids came down sick last Saturday and when Lane spiked at 104 degrees on Monday, he got taken straight to the ER. The doctor ordered a chest x-ray and found that his right lung had pneumonia. He also said that he was concerned about Lane's breathing in general and discussed the possibility of asthma. Mike and I nearly fell to the ground as we have been talking to several doctors in the last 7 mos about Lane and asthma. I guess we wouldn't know what we're talking about. It's not like me, Emma, my mom, my niece, and probably a million other people in our family don't have it. It's not like we could possibly know what we are hearing. It's not like there's any way that all that rattling and weezing could remind us of another little kid we know.... anyone picking up any sarcasm here? I'm laying it on pretty thick. I just gotta say, these "medical professionals" better start getting their act together. They don't know who they're messing with ;)

Emma is still plugging away at school. She absolutely LOVES it!!! We have to beg her for a kiss and a hug when we drop her off. She loves her teachers, she loves her friends and she loves her independence. We sure get an earful when she gets in the car after school. I am always so interested to hear what she did at school. On Thursday, she learned how to make homemade applesauce. She didn't like it. She said it didn't taste like "normal" applesauce... kids these days...

Other than this, we are just getting ready to head west. Mimi and Papa are going to fly in on the 6th and we are pulling out on the 9th. We are headed to Iowa first to say hi to some family and then Papa is flying out of Omaha. Mimi, me and the kids are finishing out the trip in the car. It should be quite the adventure. We are really looking forward to it and trying to keep busy until the time comes for us to leave. Thanks to everyone who is showing so much support for our family. More soon....

Preschool

Well, the other night was Parent Orientation Night at Emma's new preschool. She will be attending the 3 yr old class twice a week at our church. I got to meet her teacher and received all sorts of information about the school year. I can't believe she is getting ready to start school. It amazes me. I just kept thinking about how Mike and I will no longer be the only influence in her life. I wondered if I had instilled all of the tools that she will need to make it. Will she make the right decisions? Will she be influenced in the wrong way? I know it's just preschool, but it's also the beginning of a journey. It's unreal to me that she is almost 4. Where did that little baby go?

On another note, Lane has cut both of his bottom teeth at the same time. That poor boy has not been taking it well. He has been absolutely miserable and he drools like someone left the faucet on. He sits all by himself perfectly and plays with his toys and with Emma. I think he'll be sad when she starts school. He is really attached to her. He antagonizes her when he can by pulling her hair. I am pretty sure it's no longer an accident. He goes right for it, she screams, and he giggles. And so it begins....

Other than this, just getting ready to send Emma on her way. She has some field trips coming up. Their first one is to the fire station down the street from the church. I actually have to sign her first permission slip. CRAZY....

New Blog

Remember the good ol' days when I could update everyone using Emma's Babysites Journal? Well, I quickly learned that those days were over. I also learned that I can't keep up two Babysites, as much as I love that website. I am sure you have noticed that I put the pictures up on Google (Picasaweb) and now I am starting a blog for our family. This is the "new journal". So, if you feel like you want more insight into our lives and what we're up to, please check out our new Weisenbaugh Family Blog.
